Wondering about the Lackadaisy characters webpage.
(all that pretty art)
Which Ursa's "2012 Recommended Anthropomorphics List" categories would that characters webpage be eligible for?
Doubt characters page would be eligible for an Ursa award (based on the categories of the 2011 Ursa awards) ... although I suppose individual piece would be eligible for "Best Published Illustration" when there's enough Lackaidaisy comic pages for a published book two.
I took a quick look. What we have there is a collage of a couple of dozen or so illustrations, arranged like a showpiece. I'm not sure how the Ursa committee feels about it, but I would think this page of itself really wouldn't be eligible. On the other hand, if this was a set of cards or prints for sale, then they certainly would be, either as individual illustrations, or, if cards, for miscellany. There's no award for webpage, though there is one for an entire website.
I think, too, that the illustrations need to be published in a book or a magazine to be eligible, rather than released as prints, but I'm not certain about that.
That's what the "Miscellany" category on the Recommended List is for, I think, although there is no Ursa Major Award category for Miscellany. If you wanted to press the matter and recommend it (or any of the individual illustrations) for Published Illustration, go ahead. The Ursa Major Awards, and indirectly the categories, are decided on by fans and what they recommend and nominate, the committee just tries to herd the cats and keep things in order.
So this is more of the People's Choice awards rather than say the Oscars?

That's a good way to characterize it, as the Oscars are voted on only by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Cóyotl Awards
would be the equivalent of that.Edited at 2013-02-27 08:49 pm (UTC)
